Madonna’s plan to adopt another Malawi child foiled
Doing her level best to keep the tabloids in business, pop goddess Madonna is appealing the Malawi government’s rejection of her latest bid to adopt another Malawi child.
The Guardian UK reports: “Earlier, a Malawian court ruled that Madonna may not adopt three-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James because of a requirement that prospective parents live in the country for 18 to 24 months. The judge said that allowing Madonna to circumvent the rules would leave children vulnerable to trafficking.”
No speculation has arisen yet that Madonna, whose residency has hopped between the United States and the United Kingdom, might settle in Malawi to meet the local requirement.
Fox News, meanwhile, had no comment on how these developments could affect its plans to adopt a Malawi child, which the network announced April 1.
